My big fluffy furkid has a broken toe! The unexpected vet bills are eating into my winter hay money, I would really appreciate a little help

2 weeks ago I noticed Moccachino, one of my boy llamas sitting down. I wasn't very happy to see a pile of poop by his tail - llamas are very clean animals, and he had a lovely poop pile where he would normally have gone. I managed to get him to stand, and discovered he was totally lame on his front left foot. The vet came out first thing to have a look at him, and was confident that it wasn't an upper leg injury. She could find no swelling, his joints moved freely without pain, even his foot seemed OK. Or was it? She thought she could detect a little heat. So maybe he had a sprain? So she gave him a pain killer and antibiotics, just in case she had missed a wee wound, and advised rest. The waitress service kicked in - three times a day he received a big pile of hay and a bucket of fresh water, placed carefully in front of him so he didn't scare, and he was the model patient. He got up to poop, moved a little way away and sat again. A week later no change, so the vet came back. This time we decided that the best thing to do was get an x-ray and just make sure it was nothing more sinister than a sprain. So the following day two vets attended, and x-rays were taken in the paddock. Wow, he had broken a toe, spectacularly, in 5 places. How is a total enigma, as he lives alone in one of our stud paddocks, but broken it was. The treatment? Rest, so the waitress service continues, the vet is checking it regularly and is pleased with his progress (he is able to get up and down using his knee, so is resting the foot totally, clever boy.) In the meantime I have unexpected vets bills to pay, which is sucking up my winter hay savings, as well as the hay bill for his waitress service (as well as being down to my last 10 bales, so need to buy some more in over the next week or two.)
To cover our ongoing costs.

Looks like he overdid it yesterday, poor bub is off his food today. Llamas are incredibly stoic, so yesterday he was pretending everything was ok, and walking a wee bit to try and bluff me. He even gave me a defiant look, lol. I'd say he is sore today. He needs to learn to pace himself, but he is clever enough to rest it up today at least. Its early days, bones don't fix themselves in 2 and a half weeks.
