Well what can we say other than what an amazing 10 days we have had and yesterday just topped it off. It was pouring with rain when we left Chch so back packs were filled with warm clothes and rain coats. By the time we got to Hanmer Springs the rain had stopped and blue sky was poking through. Thermals and jackets were being ditched in the cars left right and centre. Up and down we go for the last time. Gail and Delia came along to support which turned out to be very handy when one of the dogs got a bee sting in her ear. Nothing like having your vet on hand to tell you what to do. Thank you for joining us ladies.

So here we are at the end. What was an idea, turned into reality and now it is finished. We have had a great time, there has been sore legs, crazy weather, tired bodies but also tons of laughs and lots of fun. The local pubs have been well supported after each peak. Seems this hiking business makes you very thirsty and hungry.

There are so many thank you's this will start to sound like an Oscar winning speech. Thank you Paul for coming up with the idea in the 1st instance, thank you all the businesses that supported us and looked after us and our dogs, thank you to the team for accepting the challenge and feeling the burn each peak, but most of all THANK YOU to all the very generous people that have donated to our fundraising cause. We are so very very grateful as is the Waimak Dog Training Club and I am very pleased to say the contract for the shed was signed with Total Span yesterday. The entire club has done so much fundraising over the past 6/7 years to get to this point and now it is actually going to happen. Yaahooooo!!! GO WAIMAK!!!

The givealittle page will stay open for another week so there is still plenty of time to donate if you would like to.

    10 down - none to go 😁😁

  • 1 to go!

    Mt Oxford.

Mt Oxford is listed as the hardest of all our peaks on the Further Faster Mountain Dog Challenge which is where the inspiration for this fundraiser began. It is notoriously known for being windy and exposed as you climb towards the Trig and has turned many people back the way they came. It is the longest and steepest of all our climbs and we can very happily say we could not have done it on a better day - not a breath of wind and lovely clear skies. The views were amazing. 3 of the team went up before work and 3 went up after work and we crossed paths at the bottom which was kinda cool - like a tag team. Thank you so much to all the generous people who have donated so much already. We cannot thank you enough and it certainly keeps us going and puts a spring in our step.

    9 down - 1 to go !!!!

  • Day 4 Rabbit Hill Porters Pass

Well I don't know what to say about today. Today was insane. Rabbit Hill was the goal. It was pretty windy on the way up to the first marker point (Trig M) and then a bit more windy to the Rabbit Hill peak. We made it, took the photo, hunkered down below a bank to have a quick rest and refuel for the walk back. That is when things started to go next level. The wind picked up and by the time we were half way home it cranked up even more, to the point where it was blow you off your feet material - literally. The dogs were starting to freak out at the prospect of blowing away so on their leads they went. And for us going up one of the shingle climbs was virtually going up on all fours or hunkering down while the wind gusted then walking a few steps before hunkering down for the next gust. It was pretty crazy stuff and I have to say a little scary.

We are 3 days into our challenge and we have made the most of the great weather to complete 5 of the 10 peaks, fortunately we had a couple of shorter climbs today because yesterday was a killer with 2 massive climbs and the remaining 5 are all 4 to 6 hour climbing days. Thanks to everyone who has donated, this sure helps drive us to forget the pain and keep going.
