A place to share hope and support for Bridget, Vince, Evie and Tilly Hendley.
Prebbleton, Canterbury
Tilly (affectionately known as Mouse) became unwell in Bintan, Indonesia after a family reunion in Ireland. Tilly and family were making their way home to Prebbleton, Christchurch when she became unwell with a gastro type presentation, which soon escalated. Bridget and Vince packed up early and on the advice of family, they travelled to Singapore, where Tilly was admitted to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
It was confirmed Tilly had Salmonella, Cryptosporidium, E Coli and a very severe infection throughout her intestines. As a result, there have been a number of complications. Mouse is in a critical but stable condition with a kidney injury, which has resulted in a number of blood transfusions and Tilly being placed on dialysis.
Tilly is currently in ICU and she is very unwell.
Due to hospital procedure Evie is unable to visit Tilly, which is hard for both of them. Although Evie is holding up as well as can be expected, this is an incredibly unsettling time for her too and an incredibly difficult juggle for both Bridget and Vince.
The Hendley’s have been so moved by the offers of support and the sheer number of people wanting to give. They have reluctantly allowed me to create this page.
We are family friends of the Hendley clan. Honoured to be walking the journey of parenting alongside Bridget, Vince and the girls.
Anything not covered by their medical insurance. Incidentals, experiences to support Evie, treats to brighten Tilly’s long days (marshmallows being high on the list).
Update - 12 August 14 August 2025
After 20 days in KK Hospital, Tilly was discharged last night 🥳 Over the past five days her recovery has been quite remarkable – even the doctors have been surprised by how quickly her kidney function has improved. She’ll still need ongoing follow-up and monitoring, but this can be done as an outpatient in Christchurch. Every day she’s a little stronger – it will take time, but we can already see the progress. She’s brave, strong, and determined… a real wee warrior.
Right now we’re packing up our temporary Singapore life and getting ready to head back to Christchurch, where our family can finally be together again. We couldn’t be prouder of both our girls, but Evie’s strength and resilience through all this has been truly inspiring. We really just can’t wait to see her.
We’ve had so many lovely messages, and I’ll be doing my best to reply to them in the coming week. Once again, thank you for all the love, thoughts, prayers, and practical support – we feel so lucky to have such an incredible group of people in our corner.
