We were robbed and had Rocky the Roller stolen from our Club. It is a vital piece of equipment for for maintaining our community track...

Auckland

Thieving from sports clubs is sadly becoming a frequent occurrence and on Thursday 6 February the Waitakere BMX Club were victims.

Rocky the Rolling Truck and low loader trailer were taken. Rocky is a vital piece of equipment that helps the club keep our track smooth and safe fo our club and community that use it. What makes this theft even more tragic is that Rocky was kindly loaned to the Waitakere BMX club by another Auckland club.

Because Rocky and the trailer were borrowed, it’s not covered by our insurance or the insurance of the other club. We urgently need your help to raise funds to replace both items.

Our club members are devastated, we had 104 very sad faces at our Waitakere BMX club night on Friday when we shared the news. Our fellow riders from the club who loaned us Rocky are equally as devastated.

BMX tracks are maintained by volunteers. Our members along with their Mums, Dads and Grandparents spend many tireless hours keeping the track in tip-top shape. As one of only a few Auckland tracks to be open to the public, we take enormous pride in this facility and the hours of fun, fitness and social interaction it provides to our local community. However, without equipment such as Rocky, maintaining the track becomes really hard and even more time-consuming for our small team of volunteers.

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been preparing the BMX track for a national race meeting at the end of February. This race event attracts hundreds of riders and their families to the area and is a much-loved event in the BMX calendar. We still have a lot of work left to do to prepare the track surface and the use of Rocky will be sorely missed.

We’ve given ourselves a month to replace Rocky and return it to the awesome BMX club that lent it to us. We would appreciate any support you can provide – every little bit helps.

THIS IS A REAL KICK IN THE GUTS FOR US...

Use of funds

We will be buying a replacement vehicle for the club that loaned us Rocky. Any surplus funds would go to operating our club and we could even be lucky enough to buy our own Rocky II.

A small win!  11 February 2020

We have been lucky enough to recover the stolen trailer and the large rolling tyres from Rocky the roller, but he is still missing.

This a modified vehicle used for rolling BMX tracks across Auckland and was on loan to us from another club.

We are desperate to replace this vehicle so we can keep the track open to the community to ride.

Please support us.

All the best for getting this replaced as soon as possible so the track can continue to operate. It’s a great community facility.
