Sophie Anna Jenkins is the most incredible sister one could ask for. After surviving Breast cancer at 21 her only dream is to start a family
Bay of Plenty
July the 18th 2011 was a day that sent our world upside down. 2 months after Sophies 21st she found a lump in her right breast which was soon after diagnosed as breast cancer.
It hasn't been an easy road for Sophie, at six years old Sophies mother had passed from the same genetic type of Breast Cancer which was later to be recognised as the ATM gene a rare genetic strand of breast cancer.
After having a double mastectomy on July 29th 2011 (11 days after diagnosis) she had several months of treacherous chemotherapy and hormone treatments. Sophie is currently in her five year remission period for cancer.
Never in my years have I experienced such will to live, such positivity and such courage. Her kind, empathetic and sincere nature makes her second to none. Always putting others first I want to dedicate this fundraiser to pay it forward for all the love she has given to others.
After all her triumphs, Sophie and Adam are knowing unable to naturally conceive because of the damage left behind from chemo and hormone treatments.
Leaving IVF and ICSI their only chance of having children.
Please help Sophie and Adam make their dreams come true.
After tests on Sophies ovaries and 2 unsuccessful rounds of clomiphene they found she was not ovulating regularly and had very irregular cycles. Which could very possibly be due to the chemotherapy as there had been no issues before treatment.
They have now been referred and are on the road to starting IVF with ICSI for any chance to have a baby.
Due to the rapid rises of estrogeon during treatment there is a risk that the cancer could return but this is their dream to have their own family and something they have discussed heavily together.
The total cost for all of the treatment is $12880.00. plus the back and fourth travelling to Hamilton and also the time off work. As a young couple that has only recently just bought their first home and have had to take out a loan to pay for fertility medication to start IVF this has brought not only emotional but financial battles.
They have spoken to their insurance company but see having a baby as a choice not a necessity, when really they don't have the choice at all.
Sophie is an inspirational soul and I would like to reach out to those who have loved and lost, those who understand the pain and hardship of not being able to conceive and to those with generous hearts. She's had one heck of a road.
Any thing I can raise will make a difference to help them on there journey and that's all i'm set to do.
Please help my sister and Adams family come
