Tuturu whakamaua kia tina!

In 2016 Westlake Boys + Girls High Schools joined forces to create a new Kapa Haka group for ASB Polyfest. We entered the competition in Division 3. It was hard it was challenging and we did awesome. Unexpectedly but thankfully we were moved up to Division 2.

2017 was next level it was daunting and we were nervous but we knew we had it in us to represent well. We dug deep and fought hard and we placed well again. We were moved in to Division 1. What an honour!

2018 Division 1 is a whole other thing for us. We are Decile 9 North Shore secondary schools with a low percentage of Maori students. We were not expecting to be here and we were just as surprised as everyone else. But we're giving it everything we've got and with great commitment and support from kaiako, whanau and the Westlake Schools communuities we're going for it.

We will also be participating in Ahurea 2018 and we've been invited to Hawaii in December on a cultural exchange tour. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. We are really excited.

This journey has been incredibly hard we have learnt so many things and found a strength about ourselves through kapa haka that we didn't know we had. We are here, we're Polyfest 2018 Division 1 and we're leaving our new Westlake kapa haka legacy!

Thank you to everyone who has supported us and who is willing to support us. We are humbled!

AND BECAUSE WE'RE AWESOME: Every dollar we raise we are giving a percentage away to a cause. In 2018 we are supporting The Parenting Place - Building Awesome Whanau program. We believe giving is just as important as receiving!
