Helping my whanau to manage the financial burden of our whanau homestead getting burnt down.
Auckland
Our whanau homestead that we have had in our whanau for generations was burnt down. This whare was very sentimental to us, our nanny and koro raised 13 kids, 73 mokopuna and their great mokopuna in this whare. My koro lived in it until he passed away in 2016. We have had this whare in our whanau for generations it was filled with memories that are now gone. We have been told it can't be saved and it has to be demolished. We have had quotes between $8k- $30k to have it demolished. As our home was not insured, this is a difficult cost for our whanau to cover and something we can't manage financially.
I am the daughter and granddaughter of the owners of the house. My Koro lived in this house and my Dad was raised in it. We also lived in this house before moving to Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland) 15 years ago.
Demolishing the house and recovering any sort of memories that can be salvaged from the ruins.
