Help me raise funds to deliver peer support, mentoring, and wheelchair servicing for Samoa's disabled community.
Canterbury
I’m Brett Ladbrook. I am a Peer Support worker with the NZ Spinal Trust based at Burwood Hospital, and have been living in a wheelchair since 1985.
Once a year, the Altus Resource Trust takes a team of skilled people to Samoa to provide services for 1 week. They take a range of health professionals from physios, occupational therapists, speech language therapists, wheelchair technicians, nurses etc.
The Altus Resource Trust is a NZ Charitable Trust where their aim is to provide support and services to Pacific Islanders with disabilities. They help with housing modifications, vehicles, equipment, medical supplies, medical equipment, healthcare support and much more.
I have been asked to attend this trip in August as a wheelchair technician. This is something I have wanted to do for some time. I would love to share my skills and experience to help others who are disadvantaged and have far less support than we do! They have constant difficulties with inadequate and limited equipment, and limited medical, support services to help them live comfortably with their disabilities.
The Altus Resource Trust has and is making a big difference, and I want to help!
I need to fund myself for the first year, and then I can be included in this incredible Team year after year to help make things easier for disabled Pacific Islanders and cannot do this without the support of you out there.
Funds raised are not for the Altus Trust but for myself to be able to attend.
Any support is very much appreciated.
I am fundraising to go to Samoa to help service wheelchairs for those with spinal cord injuries in the islands.
I am raising funds to help with travel, accommodation and food costs for one week of aid work.
