Help Rachel Make New Zealand History as first Kiwi World Championship Paraclimber. Rachel flys to Austria for WORLDS in September.
Manawatu / Whanganui
After a breaking both ankles in a climbing fall as a teenager, Rachel now has permanent lower limb damage in her left leg. This hasn't put her off climbing though, a year ago she took up the mental challenge of adapting and finding ways to climb despite not being able to use her left foot on the wall. She climbs with her arms, her right leg, and sometimes her left knee (you can have a watch of some climbing videos on her IG, details below).
After a successful competitive season in New Zealand, and a great performance in the USA National Adaptive Championships in June (where she came a close 4th), Rachel has now been selected to represent New Zealand at the IFSC World Paraclimbing Championship in Innsbruck.
She lives in Whanganui with her three children, one of whom has a disability, and travels several times a week to Ohakune or Palmerston North to train, while her children are at school. Raising three children and juggling the life of an athlete leaves little time to raise funds.
The cost of this Worlds trip will be $6,000.00
Rachel is one of three finalists for the Emerging Athlete of the Year, 2018 Attitude Award. She is also a public speaker, talking about resilience, anti-bullying, and making positive Life Choices. Radio NZ link below to hear more, or contact Rachel via @rachelcarternz for enquiries.

Waikato Climbing Club committee and coaching staff. I met Rachel while officiating at the 2017 NZ National Climbing Champs. I love her attitude toward climbing, role modeling for people with and without disabilities, and campaign against bullying. After traveling with her to the 2018 USA National Adaptive Climbing Champs, where she placed a close fourth, I truly believe that she has earned the opportunity to go to the Paraclimbing World Champs. I am setting up this page to fund her goal of personal challenge and improvement, and to be the first New Zealander to compete in this event.
Funds will contribute to the cost of the trip and the cost of training. There is no climbing wall in Whanganui so the cost of training is high.
