Whilst caring for others, Nurses vehicle stolen from Maternity Home.

I never thought I would be writing something like this because my Mum is so humble and would never ask for help! This time I can't 😭

My Mum has spent her whole life caring for other people. She worked at Christchurch Women’s Hospital for nearly 40 years caring for NICU babies and supporting families through some of the hardest moments of their lives.

After retiring, she moved to Southland to help me raise my wee boy. But retirement did not really stick. Mum still wanted to give back, so she picked up night shifts at Winton Maternity Home, helping care for local families while covering hours many people avoid.

After finishing night shift, Mum walked out expecting to head home to bed and found her car gone. Her 2000 Honda Accord had been stolen overnight from the staff carpark. Instead of driving home after a long shift, she was standing there looking at broken glass.

Like many older cars, insurance will only go so far. Mum had already been trying to save towards something safer and more practical for work and helping with kindy drop offs for my wee boy.

The hardest part is that Mum is not worried about what was taken. She is worried about getting to work and continuing to care for others in their time of need!
