Standing with Whirinaki whānau as they recover and rebuild together
Whirinaki, Northland
Whirinaki Flood Relief – Stand with our Whānau!!
On 26 March, devastating floods swept through Whirinaki in the Hokianga, breaching riverbanks and pushing water through homes, whenua, and lives.
Entire whānau were forced to evacuate.
Homes were submerged in silt and floodwater.
For some, everything was lost.
Across the valley, 65 homes have been affected, with multiple homes completely destroyed and many more left unsafe or unliveable. Some whānau remain displaced, others are returning to homes filled with mud, debris, and damage that will take months to repair.
This is more than property loss, this is whānau, whakapapa, and wellbeing.
Right now, the community is working tirelessly on the ground:
Clearing silt, debris, and fallen trees from the awa and whenua
Restoring access to isolated homes
Supporting whānau who have lost everything
Addressing urgent health and sanitation issues, including damaged septic systems
Finding safe, dry shelter for those displaced
There are whānau living in tents.
There are kaumātua and whānau with disabilities unable to return home.
There is real trauma, uncertainty, and exhaustion.
And still the work continues. We need your help.
I am supporting and coordinating efforts for Whirinaki whānau affected by the floods
Emergency accommodation and essential supplies
Clean-up efforts (machinery, labour, waste removal)
Repairs to homes and critical infrastructure
Water, sanitation, and health needs
Supporting whānau as they begin to rebuild their lives
