We are a Waka ama team determined to test our skills at the Nationals. We are looking for your support to make our dream trip happen!
Wellington
The beginning of the school year is a costly one for our parents. As this trip is not funded through school funds, we are seeking support.
We have three Waka Ama crews (a girls’ crew and two boy’s crews). These are dedicated kids that train three hours, three times a week and are really enjoying building skills and learning to work as a waka crew.
The pinnacle of our sport at Secondary School is the National Waka Ama Sprint Championships in Rotorua – it is where we can measure our abilities and development in competition with over a hundred other teams from around the country.
We’ve done quite a bit of fundraising already - two carwashes and a Bacon Buttie Stall at the Regional Championships. This has given us just over a $1000 in desperately needed funds, but the full cost of the trip is high (nearly $10,000!) and we need help.
My name is Claudia, I am one of the parents helping the kids to experience this great opportunity, and grow the sport and its benefits at Wellington High School.
Your donations will be used to cover our travel expenses such as transport, accommodation, food costs etc. This will hopefully reduce the price per head to a level that our parents can help with the rest.
Nationals week 30 March 2017
The team has been paddling hard all week at the New Zealand waka ama Nationals, competing with schools all around the country.
I am waiting to get the details and some pictures to share with all the generous donors so far. We will post them at the weekend, when we are all back at home.
Thank you all for helping out!
