Unpaid volunter work for two months to help with animal welfare and conservation in remote areas of Thailand and Costa Rica.
Auckland
Hi!
My name is Kerry and I have had a had a lifelong involvement in animal welfare causes. Having been involved in various fundraising initiatives, and volunteering on projects with Department of Conservation, SPCA and studying towards a veterinary science degree through Massey University.
An amazing opportunity has arisen to serve animals in need in remote areas. These locations include Surin province, Thailand and Tortuguero National Park and Playa Matapalo, Costa Rica.
Thailand
My trip starts off working with rescued elephants at an elephant sanctuary 60km North of Chiang Mai or at a traditional elephant village in Surin (depending on where I'm most needed).
Volunteer activities will include general care and well-being of the elephants, health checks, and education programs in local communities.
Jalova, Tortuguero National Park, Costa Rica
Here I will be based at a research station along the coastal rain forest where we will work along side the local team helping with the long term welfare of the jaguar population. This includes further research and information gathering into the predation of marine turtles by jaguars.
Playa Matapalo, Costa Rica
Activities here include night patrol looking for spawning turtles, searching for turtle nests, working in the hatchery, and monitoring marine turtles released back in wild.
