    This is a final thank you to everyone who has made a financial contribution to the Windflower Translations Project.

    I am announcing that I will no longer be seeking public funding for future translations. This will no longer be necessary. Please be assured that new translations will keep appearing on the Windflower Translations website: http://whoisbahaullah.com/windflower/

  • Donations, translation progress and new fee

    Dear all,

    We have had further donations for the translation of Tablet on the Right of the People. The target is NZ$450 (US$325) and donations currently sit at NZ$220. Therefore, approximately NZ$230 (US$166) is needed.

    The draft translation of the tablet is completed. It is now with the reviewer. I have no idea how long the review process will take. It all depends on how much time people have.

    On another matter, I have just learned that Givealittle has decided to begin charging a 5% fee, which it will automatically take from every donation made. So our free lunch is over and the service must be paid for. The new fee will come into effect on 1 September 2016.

  • Funding target for Tablet on the Right of the People

    The funding target for the latest translation, Tablet on the Right of the People, will cost US$325, which is roughly NZ$450. Donations are currently sitting at NZ$120. Therefore, approximately NZ$330 (US$240) is needed to meet the goal for this one.

  • To be translated: Tablet on the Right of the People

    Hi all,

    The next tablet to be translated through the Windflower Translations Project is called Tablet on the Right of the People (Lawh-i haqq al-nas). The context for the tablet is a question put to Baha’u’llah by a correspondent who wanted to know how a person's rights breached in the physical world are redressed in the spiritual worlds, particularly if no restitution takes place in the physical world. For example, a person wrongs another by taking a portion of their land and then the land in question is taken over by the government to build a highway, so that it can never be returned to the original owner. How might this wrong be compensated for in the next world, where there is no such thing as physical land, property rights, highways or governments?

  • Translation of Tablet to Ashraf

    In commemoration of the Ascension of Baha'u'llah, I announce the release of the latest translation from the Windflower Translations Project, Tablet to Ashraf. The tablet addresses three individuals, who all subsequently became martyrs. I think this is a fitting day to remember their sacrifice.   • total for second translation achieved

      22 May 2016

    We have had another donation and this has put the total funds held at NZ$451.94. At the current currency rate, this is just enough to pay US$300. At the moment, that would cost NZ$443.69. So we're there for now!

    The checking process on the translation is coming to an end. I'm hoping to be able to release it soon. But I've discovered that you never know what might come up to delay the process.

  • Latest translation now being checked

    Hello everyone. The draft translation of the Tablet of Ashraf is now complete and it is now being checked by others.

    The estimated cost for this translation was US$375 (NZ$560). Now that the draft translation is complete, I have the final cost and it has turned out to be lower than this estimate. The final cost is US$300, which is currently NZ$430. That figure fluctuates with the exchange rate, of course. For the last translation, it was more around NZ$450.

    Donations for this translation currently stand at $369. If I assume that the final cost is NZ$450, that would mean we need NZ$81 to reach the target. So we are very close.

    A short note to let you know how things are going with donations. At this stage, we have NZ$264 out of a goal of NZ$560. This means we still need NZ$296/US$201 to reach the target.

  • Second translation - Tablet to Ashraf

    Hi all,

    The second tablet to be translated through the Windflower Translations Project is called Tablet to Ashraf. Information about Ashraf and the tablet can be found at http://meditationsonbahaullah.blogspot.co.nz/2016/03/translation-announcement-for-festival.html. The estimated cost for this translation is US$375/NZ$560, a bit more than last time. Thank you for considering being a part of this new initiative, bringing more of Baha'u'llah's tablets to light in English. The arrival of the last translation was exciting and a spectacular success. No reason to think this one will be different.

  • Bank fees, PayPal and donations goal reached

    Bank fees: I have registered with a company called OrbitRemit (http://www.orbitremit.com/). Through them, for now anyway, I can make international money transfers to the US for free! In future, if I do need to pay a fee, it will be small.

    PayPal donations: Some people have asked me about using PayPal to donate to the project. Givealittle does not accept PayPal as a donation method. However, if anybody would like to donate that way, we can arrange it. Please email me at windflower.translations@gmail.com.

    Also, Givealittle has also told me that it is having big problems with credit card fraud. In response, it says it has blocked various card types. If you find that your card is blocked, please email me and we will try to find a way around the issue. Givealittle has a procedure for unblocking cards, which is one option.

    Finally, I am now able to say that the total in donations, as they stand, is sufficient to cover all expenses for the first translation. The bank fee for the transfer will be $0 and the translation fee is US$300. The amount of NZ$463 currently received will cover this. So we have reached the goal for the first translation! Any donations from now on will go to the next translation.

  • Estimated cost reached

    Dear donors. We have reached - and in fact exceeded - the estimated cost for the first translation. I honestly wondered if we would get there. I still can hardly believe it. It means that we can move on to the next translation with confidence that Baha'u'llah will pull something out of the hat to amaze us. Thank you very, very much for making my dream come true. You are all precious to me.

    Now, I plan to find out what will be the final cost for the translation. This final figure will include the bank fees involved in paying Keven, which will involve an international transfer. I need to investigate these matters. When I know what's involved, I will let you know.

  • Draft translation complete

    Work on preparing the translation continues. Keven has now completed a draft of the translation. This has resulted in an update of the name of the tablet. This new name is Tablet on understanding why souls turn to the Dawning Places of revelation and the reasons for opposition (Lawh-i irfan-i sabab-i iqbal va illat-i i'raz). It is drawn from the first sentence of the tablet and gives a good impression of what the tablet is about. Work on finalising the tablet is now being done. In addition, a very knowledgeable Baha'i scholar has happily agreed to write a short introduction to the tablet, to help non-scholar, English-speaking readers to understand its context and content. This is a very exciting development, which makes the process of publishing the tablet so much richer.

  • Update from Windflower Translations Project

      1 February 2016

    The latest donation to the project brings us to within NZ$82 of the NZ$450 goal for the first translation. Having said that, we must remember that the figure of NZ$450 (US$300) was an estimated cost and so it may end up a bit higher than that.

    But now that we are close to the target, work on the translation has begun. A donor has expressed delight at the possibility of being able to study the translation during the fast. God willing, this will be possible. Stay tuned!

    To everyone who would love to study a new translation from Baha'u'llah for the fast, please make a contribution so that this can happen. Thank you.
