Women About Sound 2025

Women About Sound is a community organisation that aims to support women and gender-diverse musicians in Aotearoa to develop skills and confidence in their artistic journey. We aim to address the gender imbalance within the music scene in Aotearoa and foster a diverse flourishing music community.

Women About Sound has hosted workshops, performance evenings and mentoring programmes in songwriting and music production to provide a safe space for women and gender-diverse individuals to hone their skills and connect with other musicians.

We want to continue our mission of supporting women and gender-diverse musicians by providing two programmes this year.

1. A music production course to develop skills in electronic music production and explore the creative opportunities that music production offer

2. A Songwriting Mentoring programme to build capability in songwriting and production, and confidence in the audio recording process in a safe and supportive space led by women and gender-diverse mentors and audio engineers.

We have received some funding for these programmes but we need to raise some more funds to top up the shortfall. Women About Sound has been dedicated to our mission of supporting women and gender-diverse musicians for the past eight years, and we need your help to continue our mission. Please donate and support our mission to ensure the music community is a welcoming space for all.
