Ongoing treatment and living costs for young man long term brain injury survivor of workplace gross negligence.
Nelson
Brook was 18 years old in his first full time position, he had just secured an apprenticeship because of his outstanding work ethic. His dream was to be a marine engineer, he lost this opportunity to hit his potential with this long term injury, when he was sent down with break cleaner to the engine room of a ship to clean it up. This room was poorly ventilated and very small, with no H&S or spotter supplied. Brook was found minutes from death when he didn’t turn up for his lunch where he was meeting a mate.
Two men who lied about a workplace accident that occurred a week before a similar accident left Brook Palmer with severe brain damage, are the head of the marine engineering company - (director) and its former H&S officer were each charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice following a police investigation into the company’s mishandling of a workplace incident.
Brook has had 4 years of recovery, he can only work 12-16 hours a week, he still suffers from symptoms of the brain damage, the worst being fatigue and short memory loss. He receives 80% of an apprenticeship wage. He has had a payout of 50k from the worksafe case. A further 15k for expenses for treatment.
We know of further treatment that will help him
But due to cost is not something we have been able to sustain. Also with the cost of living being so high Brook has over the past four years used the 50k to survive and help with his living costs and ongoing treatment, this has now been depleted.
He is my son.
Treatment in a bariatric chamber, infuses oxygen into the brain, stimulating the brain cells to repair. Help for ongoing living costs.
