Youth Butterflies is a social enterprise project to create youth entrepreneurship opportunities for refugee background youths in New Zealand
Auckland
Youth Butterflies was an idea that came across group of refugee background youths who happen to facilitate workshops at Mangere Refugee Resettlement camp last year. When we revisited the place where we were years ago, we felt the importance of creating a change and bringing our stories to our communities and build a welcoming community. A child asked us that will we be able to comeback. She said that we always stay here and wait for someone to know us we exist and human too. Sometime as community, we fail to know who we are residing with. New Zealand is a small country with about 4.5 million people. We are growing. Our challenges to understanding each other is also growing.
We revolutionised the story telling by using something you wear and carry every single day. Your clothes. Clothing industry is the largest industry with a turn over of $100 million dollars in New Zealand. It's a space where you can create a massive social impact and create social consciousness. What if your cloth can speak and tell you a story of someone’s adverse life experiences?.
Youth Butterflies sells tees, share stories, and give voice. We integrated a story with an augmented reality into your clothes. You can simply scan the art fabric works on your clothes and learn about someone’s adverse life experiences in real time.
Our life experiences are the most valuable book that should be available for everyone to read and have clear understanding of how and why we should live the life to make things beautiful and love everyone in our communities. Let’s Make more youth butterflies and build a stronger community that live by love and peace.
