Thank you to everyone for your generosity and support of this project ! Since last year, with the fundraising efforts of other interns combined, Subir Africa Foundation now owns 4 sewing machines and distributed pads to 60 girls. We are fundraising again for Menstrual Hygiene Month, here is the updated page: https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/yasemin-cares-period-project-reusable-pads-1

Any donation helps, no matter how small :) Thank you for helping us make an impact and fight period stigma!

On Friday 4th October, the reusable pads made at the workshop were donated to 25 girls at a home for disabled children. They each got 2 pads, meaning they will be able to access safe menstrual hygiene for the next 2 years, as the reusable pads can be used for a year. Thanks for all the ongoing support!

  • Preparing the second round of donations: Reusable pad workshop in collaboration with Kisa Pads

      6 October 2024

Materials were bought using the funds collected. Kisa Pads provided sewing machines and some additional materials to train the girls to make reusable pads. The pads made at this workshop (see video) will be distributed at the schools next week, in time for school exams ! A huge thanks to everyone for your ongoing support :)

  • First round of donations !

Reusable pads have been distributed to 30 beneficiaries on the last week of August, before back to school !

My supervisor Bwowe has mobilized 30 girls from most vulnerable communities at Bbaale Ggunda Primary School, and donated reusable pads followed up teacher Racheal Nalubowa demonstrating to the girls how to use them. I was lucky to witness this in videocall. The donated pads were pre-made, branded packets that were purchased using the funds raised.

We are now hoping to move onto making reusable pads from scratch and teaching it to the students. But that project is more costly, because of buying materials such as the fabric. This is why the target has been updated to 1000$ / 2.3 million ugandan shillings.

Thank you to everyone who has supported! Let’s make this project come to life!
