Yasemin Cares Period Project: Reusable pads for school girls in Uganda

$442 of $1,000 goal
Given by 26 generous donors in around 4 months

Contribute to Subir Africa Foundation (SAFO-Uganda)'s reusable pad project: To ensure girls don't miss school, and to combat period stigma!

Wellington

Hi, I'm Yasemin. I am currently doing a virtual internship with Subir Africa Foundation (SAFO-Uganda) for my study at Victoria University of Wellington. As a Health Coordinator intern, I am fundraising to distribute reusable menstrual pads, and teach young girls to sew reusable pads. This project aims to end menstrual stigma and fight school dropouts and absenteeism caused by period poverty.

About the NGO:

Subir Africa Foundation (SAFO-Uganda) is a community-based nonprofit organization, working to improve the lives of vulnerable and marginalized groups around Masaka City and greater Masaka through participatory and collaborative approaches. SAFO-Uganda's core program areas are Health, Education, Economic Development, Food and Nutrition Support, Sustainability, Women, Children & Youth. SAFO-Uganda runs workshops to raise awareness. This includes visiting schools to give menstrual education and teaching students how to sew reusable pads, using patterns and washable fabric.

Funds will be used to donate pads, and to buy materials for the reusable pads. Taking local currency into account, this project is low-cost yet highly impactful: $9 is enough to support 1 girl for the entire school year. Even a small gift makes a huge difference!

Accountability for the project will be presented to the donors on request, with reports and photos coming straight from the NGO's supervisor, Bwowe Damiano. For information, you can reach out directly to him through email [safouganda23@gmail.com]

Use of funds

Funds will be used to donate pads to school girls, and to buy the materials needed to teach them how to sew reusable pads.
