Yellow is a short, comedy drama that tells the story of a young Polynesian student, Sama, who is in a bizarre race against time to retrieve her lost laptop, and execute her final university assignment. The obstacles she faces? They happen to be her family members.
You will be laughing as you see Sama forced out of her comfort zone, and as she takes you along on her journey it will remind you of your own, odd family relationships. It is a story that speaks to families and also encourages individuals to sometimes ‘just let loose’.
More significantly though, we delve into the interesting dynamics of a Pasifika family, which adds a whole lot of fun to the film.
"This film draws on my own personal values and experiences as a Samoan university student, I hope to reach out to other Pasifika university students who may be struggling with mental health issues or who feel isolated in Western Tertiary Institutions. This film is centred around family and gives insight into what it's like to battle with perfectionism, reminding viewers to keep a healthy balance in their lives. In terms of my vision, I aspire for this film to be diverse, energetic, colourful and most of all funny. Humour has always been my go to coping mechanism, And I am a strong believer in laughter being the best medicine. And so I want to share this with as many people as possible, bringing people and communities together in the name of comedy." -Sade Young (Director)
