Olivia James is a determined 14-year-old sailor from Bayview Auckland with a passion for the sport. She discovered sailing at 11 and has since dedicated herself to training and competing with Northcote Birkenhead Yacht Club. Although from a working family where this not being a family tradition—Olivia's commitment and hard work have driven her success. She dreams of representing New Zealand. From a modest hardworking background this girl is willing to work trough any challenge that faces her in the sport – even facing the winter sailing regattas always with a smile on her face. Olivia is often sailing 6 days a week- (7 days if she could) alongside her schooling.
Olivia’s sailing journey has been one of passion, perseverance, and continuous growth. From her early days discovering this sport she has committed herself to developing the skills needed to compete at an elite level. Her dedication to training, racing, and learning has shaped her into a young sailor with a clear vision for her future in the sport.
Beyond her personal achievements, Olivia is driven by the desire to inspire others, especially young girls, to pursue sailing. Her involvement in mentoring junior sailors and leading events reflects her deep commitment to giving back to the sailing community. Olivia's journey is about more than just personal success—it's about becoming a trailblazer for the next generation of sailors.
Olivia is deeply inspired by role models such as Liv Mackay, Jo Aleh, and Martine Grael.
