At the young age of 31, Melissa has been diagnosed with Bowel Cancer. Her entire bowel will need to be removed to try beat this.
Auckland
Last week, our wonderful friend was diagnosed with bowel cancer. At the young age of 31, she is a single mother raising a gorgeous little girl and of course is terrified. Melissa’s prognosis is that she has a fighting chance to beat this cancer but her entire bowel will need to be removed to help her have that fighting chance.
Melissa is about to start on a very tough journey. Recovery from the operation will be approximately 6 weeks and her specialist has said that as long as the cancer has not spread into her lymph nodes recovery will be 9 months at best. If the cancer has spread it will be an even longer fight that she will have.
Without any health insurance, and the inability to be able to work through her recovery period, we have set up this page hoping to be able to help Melissa through her treatment and her recovery, by raising funds which will go towards contributing towards her living costs, and making sure her daughter is well cared for by removing the financial strain this will put on her little family unit.
Any donation will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping our friend through this terrible ordeal.
We are friends who recognise that Melissa will need financial help to get her through the tough journey she is about to embark on.
Funds will go toward living costs for Melissa and her daughter during treatment and recovery. Surplus funds will be donated to the Bowel Cancer Foundation Trust.
Mel's Surgery 6 June 2018
Here's our girl. Just two days after having her bowel removed Mel is managing to walk assisted and is starting to eat. The operation took 6 hours and the surgeon is happy with the join and his work. Her bowel has been sent away for testing and we are hoping that she will be clear of all the cancer to begin her recovery.
Whilst the surgery was a success, it was discovered that the cancer had spread to some of Mel's lymph nodes.
Even though this is a set back, Mel is determined to beat this cancer with everything she has. She now has months and months of Chemotherapy and Radiation ahead of her, and a much longer recovery time.
Mel has specifically asked me to thank you all for the donations you have generously given. These funds will go a long way to providing for her daughter during this very difficult time.
In light of the extended recovery time, we will be extending this campaign so please share amongst your friends and urge them to "Givealittle". Every little bit counts and will go a long way!
