It takes a village to raise 3 kids and nurse a nurse
Dunedin, Otago
On January 18th Danielle suffered a traumatic brain injury & went into adrenal failure. MRI results showed a bleed pushing on her Pituitary gland causing it to be enlarged & push on her optic nerve (affecting her vision); she was told she had a tumour in her head that burst with concussion .
She has stroke like symptoms (right side weakness) meaning her arm is numb & she drags her leg, plus nausea & fatigue - it's a waiting game to get more answers, neurosurgery instruction, and a treatment plan (due to how slow the health system is). We have involved every Brain Injury and rehab organisation we can.
Lyndon, her partner, has had to leave work on many occasions, & has had “the call” to rush to A&E (emergency room) as we have nearly lost Danielle too many times - someone is clearly watching over her, but we need a village to support them as they get back on their feet.
At only 26, she has gone from being employed as a nurse in a high care D6 dementia/end of life unit - to being unemployed & needing to be nursed herself as she isn't safely able to care for her three young boys on her own (aged 7, 3, & one year) & needs to have someone there assisting.
Danielle has now lost her nursing job of 4 years due to being unwell, and Lyndon has put his car painting apprenticeship on hold as Danielle is not safe to be left by herself especially watching the children
With day-to-day living costs rising the family are struggling to make ends meet while neither of them are able to work.
The money raised will be used for extra daycare costs, day to day living expenses, any additional medical costs not covered by ACC (and hopefully a break from the kids)
Thank you so much Wendy for your generosity; even now things are tough battling ACC, so your kindness helps to make life brighter for the family
