Yukon 1000 | World's Longest Canoe Race From Canada to the Arctic Circle, Kiwis take on the world.

Blenheim, Marlborough

Kieran and Tim are participating in the Yukon 1000 paddle race, which is the longest paddle race in the world. Out of 5,000 entries, only 30 teams are selected to compete. Starting on July 10th 2025 in Whitehorse, Canada,

The Boomtown Boys will paddle 1,000 miles (1,600 km) down the Yukon River. This involves approximately 18 hours and 200 km of paddling each day, with the race ending at the Dalton Highway Bridge in Alaska 7-10 days later. The race is unsupported, meaning participants must be self-sufficient in the wilderness for the entire duration, with potential encounters with wildlife such as grizzlies or moose.

This event also serves as an opportunity to raise some funds for the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter and to assist with the cost to hire the Kayak for this adventure

During a recent training mission around Arapaoa Island in the Marlborough Sounds, Tim and Kieran experienced the loss of their rudder. While they had all the safety gear including PFD, PLB, flares, and GPS communications they had a challenging time navigating big seas and tides rudderless.

They managed to return to the safety of the inner sounds and were able to limp home but The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter was definitely front of mind when things didn’t go quite as planned. You can follow he Boomtown Boys tracker, as they race the Yukon 1000.

We invite you in the meantime to check out https://www.yukon1000.org

Thank you for your support, a little goes a long way enabling Tim & Kieran.
