It's 10 days until the start of the 2018 ISA World Surfing Games in Japan.

Zen arrived back from Indonesia this morning with his new boards. He will train this afternoon and tomorrow morning and then run a training camp for the 12 member Auckland Scholastic Surfing Team over the weekend.

He needs to keep his mind and body busy over the next week because many countries will be sending their top CT (Championship Tour) surfers to Japan for this contest. It will by far be the highest level of surfing Zen has ever competed against especially as it will be a trial run for when surfing is in the Tokyo Olympics in two years.

Here are Zen's words for now but he will reply to every donor individually over the next two days.

'Hey thanks everyone I'm super close to my goal and i'm fired up for this comp. It's great to be home but I'm excited about Japan. It's a country I've wanted to visit for a long time having heard so many good things about the culture and people. And while I'm not wanting anyone to have bad weather, I am quietly hoping we get some typhoon swell come through during the event.

Most of all I want our NZ Team to do well and I'm super thankful for the help from everyone so that I can get to this comp with the best boards and in the fittest state possible.

There are 6 of us in the team and if we all do our bit we have a chance of achieving something special.

Thanks again and lots of Aroha nui. '

    Zen

Thanks for everyone's support so far. For me, representing New Zealand is the biggest thing that has happened to me and it's a total honour.

I first made the NZ Team when I was 19 at the ISA World Surfing Games in Panama. (pictured)

This will be the 8th time I've made NZ teams and I'm super keen to use my experience to help us achieve something special. NZ's top surfer, Paige Hareb will be in the team with me again and she has just placed an awesome 3rd at a big event in Spain which will hopefully help her re-qualify for the World Tour in 2019.

2018 has already been a really special year for me but I'm not finished with what I want to achieve, and every bit of help I get is going to help me do the best I can.

I've been training super hard, have just picked up my new boards, and I'm keen.

I'll keep you posted on what's happening over the next couple of weeks.

    Thanks, Zen
