Please help Zen represent New Zealand at the 2018 World Surfing Games and enable him to Coach both the Auckland and NZ Junior Surfing Teams.
Nationwide
Zen has been selected to join the NZ Surfing Team to attend the 2018 ISA World Surfing Games in Japan at the end of September. Zen has represented New Zealand 7 times previously at differing World Surfing Games, twice finishing with a top 20 placing.
This 2018 event is especially important because it is a precursor to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo where surfing will be included for the first time ever. Zen's place in this year's team is a late selection due to the withdrawal of New Zealand's number one surfer, Ricardo Christie.
Once the World Titles for the 2018 World Surfing Games have been decided, Zen's work will not be done. He will then promptly return to New Zealand to Coach the Auckland Scholastic Surfing Team at the National Scholastics Champs in Gisborne in early October. On completion of that event, Zen then travels to Huntington Beach as part of the Coaching Staff for the 12 member NZ Junior Surfing Team that will compete at the 2018 World Junior Surfing Games at the end of October.
To compete to top international level, Zen needs to be at peak personal and surfing fitness and that will limit his ability to work in his normal job as a surf coach with Piha Surf School.
Zen is my son but I am also the secretary for his club, Lion Rock Boardriders Club. As a club we want to raise money for Zen so he can attend the 2018 ISA World Surfing Games in Japan, and still be able to meet his obligations to both the Auckland Scholastic Team and 2018 NZ World Junior Team.
As a sport's club, we will be looking to set up similar 'Give A Little Pages' for any members who attain international representation.
The funds raised will go towards airfares, accommodation, food expenses, and entry fee.
Zen currently does not have full surfboard sponsorship, so he has to pay for his boards and other necessary equipment while losing over a months wages.
