How you can help support our family through Zoe's continuing hip journey.
Christchurch, Canterbury
On April the 3rd, Zoe will be heading into her 4th hip surgery. Her first 5 years have been a big journey but we hope this will be the final surgery! Below is a glimpse into her journey...
Zoe's journey:
24 hours old: Placed into a von Rosen Splint
8 weeks: Placed into a pavlik harness
5 months: Closed reduction surgery - placed into a spica cast
6 months:: Back to theatre for a cast change
8 months:: Placed into a Rhino Cruiser brace
18 months: Femoral Osteotomy - Wheelchair 6 weeks non-weightbearing
3 years: broke right leg, then left leg, and then finished the year with her hardware removal surgery.
4 years old: tonsil and adenoids removed due to sleep apnea
Current: Working through bowel complications and waiting for paediatric referral
This latest surgery will be a pelvic osteotomy as they reshape the hip joint on Zoe's left hip. The recovery for this surgery is 6 weeks in a wheelchair non-weightbearing, followed by no running and jumping while she faces physio to help her regain strength.
As a family this is going to be a tough time as I (Abbey - Zoe's mum) take an extended amount of time away from work. This will place a financial burden on our family as we balance the needs of Zoe and as we care for her in the best way we can. We are reaching out and asking for a little but of financial help during this time.
There is a chance that this surgery will be delayed and done at a later date, in which case all funds will be put aside for this time.
The money will be spend on weekly living costs as Abbey takes 5-7 weeks off of work. This includes groceries, fuel, parking for the hospital and meals for the week that Zoe is in hospital directly after the surgery.
Thank you! 31 March 2023
As this page comes to a close this evening, I wanted to take the time to thank everyone who has donated, sent prayers and offered meals for our tribe for the coming weeks.
The money raised will cover my wages as I take unpaid leave, will provide comfortable clothing for Zoe, a blanket for her trips out and about in the wheelchair, any additional supplies we need for toileting/changing and cover the mobility parking permit.
At this stage surgery looks to be going ahead and we will be heading to the hospital at 7am on Monday morning.
We feel incredibly blessed by everyone.
Thank you again and much love from the Thorne whānau.
