Fundraising for Gumboot Friday
Christchurch, Canterbury
On October 10th last year I lost my best friend to suicide. It's been the greatest challenge to continue stepping up to my responsibilities every single day, with what feels like the weight of the world on my chest.
So this year I step up, 1000 times over, with weight literally strapped to my chest.
This is a Crossfit Hero Workout known as 'Chad'. 1000 step-ups onto a 20" box with a weight vest on. Being that we are both country girls at heart, and to honour the battle that is mental health, I've chosen to make this extra spicy and do it in gumboots.
Paiges favourite charity was always Gumboot Friday. We fundraised for Gumboot Friday in the weeks before she took her life and at her funeral, and plan to donate every year in her honour.
WE DID IT!! 10 October 2025
I say we because I had atleast 9 people stop in to support during the 1 hour and 56 minutes it took. AND the support of the incredible gym owner, coach and the community at my local gym. Along with countless messages and donations throughout.
Paiges Mum gifted me a bracelet after the first 100 reps and Paiges son imbued it with his energy with a powerful fist bump 🥺. He also put on a weighted vest and did 20 step ups with me. A friend brought her daughter in to motivate me and helped take photos. Another mate sat next to me giving words of encouragement the whole time. Another friend again put a vest on and did the last 200 step ups with me. We finished to cheers and support from the coaches and people training nearby.
Its really takes a village. They say this about raising kids but raising ourselves, lifting ourselves up and staying afloat is exactly the same. Lean on your people. They WANT to support you. Let them. Thank you all so much. This one is for you Paige. ✨️
