Hi Team
I just wanted to reach out to you all and give you an update on the 10 Half Marathons in 10 Weeks - raising awareness and much-needed funds for I AM HOPE who help and assist with mental health in New Zealand.
I didn't run last weekend due to fishing with friends in the Coromandel so I ran my 6th Half Marathon in 6 weeks on Monday night just gone from 6:30pm in the dark, windy and rainy conditions with my headlamp!
6 down / 4 to go!
I am starting to experience a few aches and pains, I'm seeing a great physiotherapist weekly from Physio Mechanics in Karaka / Takanini called Amelia Buckley.
Amelia & I are working on bruising and swelling, from this weekly consistent running, on my left foot (the posterior tibialis tendon - a strange injury). We have a plan and we will succeed!
Funnily enough, after I saw her a second time I ended up running my 3rd fastest half marathon time ever!
That said, I am not competing against anyone and I'm not out to win any races, so with 4 half marathons to go in 4 weeks, and aches and pains starting to really come through now, it's all about getting to the end and doing it without causing silly damage to my body.
Finally - a reminder of why I'm doing this and where your donation is going:
- I AM HOPE is the youth and community-focused support group run by The Key to Life Charitable Trust, started by Mike King.
- Excuse the pun, but simply put, I AM HOPE spread the message of hope to people, especially young people, in schools throughout New Zealand.
- They look to raise awareness and encourage communities and individuals to drive the attitudinal and social change that is needed to reverse the incidence of suicide and depression.
On behalf of I AM HOPE and speaking for myself - thank you for your support! We have raised over $2.7k to date with another $500-$800 kindly pledged.
Have a good Friday / weekend!
Sam Walsh
