    Hi Team

We did it! All of us together have had a part to play in raising awareness and funds for I AM HOPE and the work they do for mental health in our schools and communities. As I write this, over $4.5k raised! Phenomenal effort from everyone!

Friday, 5th August a crew of us from MediaWorks (Sophie Lawson, Johnathan Schaffer, Amelia MacDiarmid and Dan Dalton) took off from work to St Heliers and back. It was wonderful to finish with friends, family and work colleagues at the end - and I must admit I got a bit emotional in my small but brief speech at the end!

What a ride, great to see smiles on people's faces.

I'll be doing one more update in the coming weeks as I'll be leaving this page open for a few weeks yet.

    Warm regards

    Sam

  • 9 Down / 1 To Go!

      2 August 2022

    Hello Everyone

Ran my 9th Half in 9 weeks last Friday night. It was a slow one, but I guess this far in I should be expecting to slow up a bit!

Over $3.5k has been raised to date which is absolutely outstanding.

This Friday from 12:30pm, starting from the middle of Victoria Park in Auckland's CBD I will be running from there to St Heliers and back = 21.1km on my 10th and final half marathon, running for I AM HOPE and mental health in NZ.

If you are in the area, you are welcome to join me, show your support in any way possible etc.

I will be aiming to be back at Victoria Park around 3:00pm-3:20pm.

Thanks team - appreciate everyone's messages!

    Warm regards

    Sam

Bonjour, Hola, Ciao and as they say in Australia “G'day Mate”

I just wanted to give an update on where we’re at 8 weeks in on our 10 Half Marathons in 10 Weeks campaign which as you know, goes towards promoting positive attitudinal societal change around mental health throughout this country of ours, and funding private care and counselling for our young people!

Around 6pm on Friday night I took off from home once again and ran my 8th half marathon in 8 weeks around Karaka Lakes / Karaka Harbourside / to Takanini and back.

She was a cold one Friday night, and my hands were freezing but the objective was achieved! I started strong – close to 6min km’s (which for me is a good pace) but blew out in the last 7km to a much slower time – that said – I haven’t walked once so far (even though competitive walkers would be faster than me at times).

Thanks again for your donation, as I write this $3,340 raised to date.

Hopefully there is a video update attached to this email / and an image of the route I am running.

    Have a great week!

    Warm regards

    Sam

  • 6 Down / 4 to Go!

    Hi Team

I just wanted to reach out to you all and give you an update on the 10 Half Marathons in 10 Weeks - raising awareness and much-needed funds for I AM HOPE who help and assist with mental health in New Zealand.

I didn't run last weekend due to fishing with friends in the Coromandel so I ran my 6th Half Marathon in 6 weeks on Monday night just gone from 6:30pm in the dark, windy and rainy conditions with my headlamp!

    6 down / 4 to go!

I am starting to experience a few aches and pains, I'm seeing a great physiotherapist weekly from Physio Mechanics in Karaka / Takanini called Amelia Buckley.

Amelia & I are working on bruising and swelling, from this weekly consistent running, on my left foot (the posterior tibialis tendon - a strange injury). We have a plan and we will succeed!

Funnily enough, after I saw her a second time I ended up running my 3rd fastest half marathon time ever!

That said, I am not competing against anyone and I'm not out to win any races, so with 4 half marathons to go in 4 weeks, and aches and pains starting to really come through now, it's all about getting to the end and doing it without causing silly damage to my body.

Finally - a reminder of why I'm doing this and where your donation is going:

    - I AM HOPE is the youth and community-focused support group run by The Key to Life Charitable Trust, started by Mike King.

    - Excuse the pun, but simply put, I AM HOPE spread the message of hope to people, especially young people, in schools throughout New Zealand.

    - They look to raise awareness and encourage communities and individuals to drive the attitudinal and social change that is needed to reverse the incidence of suicide and depression.

On behalf of I AM HOPE and speaking for myself - thank you for your support! We have raised over $2.7k to date with another $500-$800 kindly pledged.

Have a good Friday / weekend!

    Sam Walsh

PS. Photo is post the fifth half marathon.

  • We're not all 20 years old anymore Sam!

      30 June 2022

Hello Everyone - thanks to you all for your donations!

Update: 4 Half Marathons Down / 6 to go and I'm getting nervous!

A few expected aches and pains are starting to surface but I'll stay the course (slowly) - my physiotherapist rightly said "we aren't all twenty years old anymore Sam", oh how right she is in my case!

Hope everyone has a great Thur/Friday and up-and-coming weekends!

    Warm regards

    Sam

    Hi People!

Grateful again for your very kind donations, I posted this interview on my socials a week or so ago but if you haven't caught it, please see the link in this email update.

It was a great opportunity to talk to Dom Bowden on his WellBeings Show on Today FM a few Saturdays ago about Mental Health, this fundraising campaign and the reasons behind it. (I was quite nervous beforehand but he made the interview relaxed!!)

    Hope everybody is well!

    Warm regards

    Sam

Woke up with some sore knees/legs and right IT band but nothing a few days of rest and recuperation can't fix.
