2 Firefighters 5 days 5 Marathons
Winton, Southland
We are Steve Turton and Guy Johnstone from the Winton Volunteer Fire Brigade and are about to hit the road to raise funds for Gumboot Friday. We hope that you will consider supporting the charity with a donation that will help fund counselling for young people.
We will be walking from Bluff to Queenstown in our firefighting kit including BA. The 214km trek will take us five days, leaving on Monday 30 October and arriving on Friday 3 November.
We are both motivated by the needs we have seen through our involvement in our brigade and the wider community, and our own personal experiences with mental health through our lives. We know how hard it is to ask for help, and also how stretched the public health services are.
“Mental health struggles are such a common thing, and we should be talking about it,”
We are being supported by brigades along the route, including offers of accommodation each night from members from the Bluff, Wallacetown, Lumsden and Kingston VFBs. Our own Winton VFB is right behind us, and members of the Queenstown and Frankton VFBs will welcome us for the final leg of our journey.
We would love people to step out alongside us as we walk through the towns on our way to Queenstown, drop some cash into our buckets or Donate through "The Givealittle Page, and spread the word.
