Fundraising for Oxford Search and Rescue
Canterbury
I LOVE the outdoors and adventure. In New Zealand its a bit more risky and as such Ive had 2 'opportunities' to be pulled out the bush by helicopter
In 3 weeks time I will be racing 243km over 2 days from the West coast of New Zealand to the East Coast. This will be by running, cycling and kayaking. I have chosen to pay back the awesome people who put their lives on hold to keep me alive and doing the things I love
Kayaking has been a struggle with the rushing water due to PTSD from my first helicopter rescue where I was stuck on my own in a hut with rising rivers for 27 hours waiting to be pulled out. I thought I was over it but whitewater has definitely brought it back and it has been very hard to not have a panic attack every time I get on the water. Thanks to friends and an amazing kayak coach, I have got there! (mostly)
My second helicopter rescue was due to a major ankle injury when hiking where I describe it as: 'shredded on the inside'. I have spent 2 periods in a moonboot for a total of 7 months, had surgery to fix it and have spent countless hours on rehab (which is still ongoing). Something still isnt right and for 1.5 years I have spent every day in pain. Thankfully it is improving slowly but surely although running has been a big struggle and I only really started running more than 3k in December 2023... 2 months before the race!
And just because I like attention I broke my hand in October which put me out for 6 weeks
Despite all this, Im really looking forward to it!
