24hrs of Suicide awareness
Christchurch, Canterbury
My name is Kotte Aguilar, I'm an advocate for mental health, wellbeing and suicide awareness and others. In 2014 I began teaching yoga, I focused on youth groups in crisis, this included mental health facilities, a youth justice centre, and others but mainly kids that were in crisis and didn't have tools to manage their emotions. My passion is to empower our youth and give them the skills that they need.
On the 10th of September, suicide awareness day, I will be stepping on my mat for 24 hours without a stop. For myself, Yoga is a form of therapy to help my mental health and I encourage others to give it a try too.
How people express themselves differs with each individual. These outlets can also be a way to support your mental health. Hence, I will be supported by different creators who express themselves in their own way such as music and arts. Throughout the 24 hours, I welcome you to come join for as long as you wish to participate in yoga, watch and meditate or use the space to express yourself and emotions in whatever way you feel comfortable.
Each hour needs a donation in order to continue, the event will be livestream and all the money raised will be going directly to https://www.gumbootfriday.org.nz/ Providing therapy treatment for kids and youth to up to 25 years old.
When donating consider that the average cost of therapy in NZ is at least $70 per session however $2 are better than $0!
