Dennis is biking 3,000kms: can you support his ride by donating to Parkinsons New Zealand?
Nationwide
It has been a long-held ambition of mine to ride the Tour Aotearoa – a bike journey from the top of the Nth Island to the bottom of the Sth Island. It's a 3,000km bike route designed by the Kennett Brothers and the route includes many of Aotearoa’s famous bike trails.
While the ride will be challenging for me (at the age of 73yrs), I reflect on the challenges that a good mate of mine is having on his journey with Parkinson’s disease. It seems right to have a cause beyond self, and therefore I wish to raise donations to Parkinson’s New Zealand during my ride.
Donations of any value are important in supporting the work of Parkinson’s New Zealand.
You can track my progress at https://touraotearoa2024.maprogress.com/#participants-list
Search for ‘Dennis Millard’, ‘Denbike’ or my bike’s name ‘Parker’.
And will I make the 3,000kms to Bluff? I most surely will: I have wife, children and grandchildren urging me on ... as well as biking mates and my Rotary colleagues.
All done! At the finish line. 13 March 2024
At 9:30am this morning I finished the Tour Aotearoa at Stirling Point, Bluff. What an incredible journey it has been: tough days & easy days, magnificent landscapes, biker camaraderie, friendly well-wishers and of course, all the people online who have supported me with encouragement and who have donated to Parkinson's NZ so willingly. As a Rotary member of Rotary Club Auckland East, I also want to thank Rotarians who setup a separate donation appeal which is similar in amount to the Givealittle appeal. Thank you everyone: thank you for your generosity. By supporting my ride you have made a meaningful difference to the lives of others. Kind regards to all, Dennis.
Many thanks Annette for your donation - very much appreciated. It was good to catch-up at the 'surprise' reception you all gave me at Annabelles Restaurant on Sunday. So good to see so many there. It allowed me to personally thank all those who have supported me throughout the ride. Best regards, Dennis
Many thanks Sam for your donation. It's been a great experience - and one I would do again!!! Look forward to sharing my ride in a presentation coming up. Cheers Dennis
Thank you Ian for your donation to Parkinson's NZ. Every dollar helps and we appreciate your contribution. Many thanks, Dennis
Many thanks Peter & Margaret for your very generous donation. It will be greatly appreciated. As you know, I am back home now and I have thoroughly enjoyed the biking and it is very rewarding to be able to raise donations for Parkinson's NZ along the way. Best regards, Dennis
Many thanks Jill & Paul for your generous donation. Yes, all finished in Bluff at 9:30am Wed 13 March. A journey with a tremendous feeling of adventure and fulfilment. I'll look forward to sharing a few stories with you over a glass of wine. Kind regards, Dennis
