I'm doing a 30km walk to support Black Sheep Animal Sanctuary!
Wellington
Hi! I am a 16 year old person named Holly and I'm going to be doing a 30km fundraiser walk along Wellington's South Coast on Sat 6th March 2021 for the Black Sheep Animal Sanctuary. I've been vegan all my life, I adore all animals, and I've been visiting the black sheep (and sponsoring one of their sheep, Fennel) for 10 years.
Here's a little bit about the black sheep, copy pasted from their site: www.theblacksheep.org.nz
"At our vegan animal sanctuary in Ōtaki Forks, we care for around 150 rescued animals, including pigs, goats, sheep, roosters, geese, cows, horses, ducks, hedgehogs, guinea pigs, and rabbits. We have rehomed lambs, sheep, chickens, cows, dogs and socialised wild kittens to loving permanent homes. The Black Sheep promotes animal care and compassion through many channels: social media, newsletters, stalls at community events such as Out in the Park, Vegan Vault, and Newtown Festival, sanctuary tours, the Opportunity for Animals op-shops and by working with other animal protection groups.
Every animal rescued is a symbol of hope and liberation."
Any little bit helps and it'd mean the world to me if you could share this around as well.
I hope everyone reading this has a great day,
from Holly
Holly's been supporting the Black Sheep since she was six, and our whole family absolutely loves all the amazing work they do!
30-km walk completed! 13 April 2021
On Sat 10th April, Holly, vegan friend Maddy, and "Mascot" the (white) sheep completed the 30-km walk to raise funds for the Black Sheep Animal Sanctuary. The route followed the South Coast from our starting point at Owhiro Bay (9.40am) to Seatoun, right around the Mirimar Peninsula (with a picnic lunch break at Scorching Bay), through Evans Bay and Oriental Bay to finish up at Te Papa at 5.40pm. Holly's mum, Angela, walked the first half; Holly's dad, Sean, walked the second half, and Archie, the rather lazy greyhound, managed a slightly-less-impressive half hour before lunch. Although the weather was mixed, the rainfalls were reasonably brief, and the wind only very strong at the top of the Miramar Peninsula. We were, however, blessed with several beautiful rainbows! Spirits were high throughout, and Holly walked with great determination and at a good pace. Many rounds of "Who Am I?" were completed! A great day was topped off by a delicious vegan meal at Aunty Mena's to celebrate Holly's walk, and that fact that the walk has (so far) raised $1,275 for the sanctuary. Thank you all so much for your support and encouragement!
