30kms for animals!

  • 30-km walk completed!

      13 April 2021

On Sat 10th April, Holly, vegan friend Maddy, and "Mascot" the (white) sheep completed the 30-km walk to raise funds for the Black Sheep Animal Sanctuary. The route followed the South Coast from our starting point at Owhiro Bay (9.40am) to Seatoun, right around the Mirimar Peninsula (with a picnic lunch break at Scorching Bay), through Evans Bay and Oriental Bay to finish up at Te Papa at 5.40pm. Holly's mum, Angela, walked the first half; Holly's dad, Sean, walked the second half, and Archie, the rather lazy greyhound, managed a slightly-less-impressive half hour before lunch. Although the weather was mixed, the rainfalls were reasonably brief, and the wind only very strong at the top of the Miramar Peninsula. We were, however, blessed with several beautiful rainbows! Spirits were high throughout, and Holly walked with great determination and at a good pace. Many rounds of "Who Am I?" were completed! A great day was topped off by a delicious vegan meal at Aunty Mena's to celebrate Holly's walk, and that fact that the walk has (so far) raised $1,275 for the sanctuary. Thank you all so much for your support and encouragement!

On Saturday, Holly and Angela walked from the Wahine Memorial in Eastbourne to the old Pencarrow Lighthouse and back, a round trip of 14km. Another beautiful sunny day, with amazing views from the lighthouse. Finished off at the Foxcat Cafe/Food Truck for yummy vegan smoothies. Holly’s ankle is now fully recovered, and this was the last training walk for Holly's 30-km fundraising walk for the Black Sheep Animal Sanctuary, which will be on on Sat 10th April. Thank you all so much for your support!

Yesterday we did a "tester" walk (9.2 kms from the Hikoikoi Reserve, along the Hutt River and back), and Holly's ankle did well. So, we now have a new date for her 30-km walk:

Sat 10th April. Thank you all for your support!

  • Walk postponed

      5 March 2021

Unfortunately Holly's 30-km walk, which was to be tomorrow (6th March), will now have to be postponed. Holly came back from school camp today with a bruised and swollen ankle, so isn't up to a long walk. Will let you know when we have a new date.

Another training day today for Holly's 30km fundraising walk for the Black Sheep Animal Sanctuary, which will take place on Sat 6th March. This time we tackled the stunning 18-km Remutaka Rail Trail. Great walk, and we feel like we're on track for 6th March.

  • 14-km training walk!

      1 February 2021

On Sunday, Holly and I walked from the Wahine Memorial in Eastbourne to the old Pencarrow Lighthouse and back, a round trip of 14km. A beautiful sunny day, and it was really nice to be walking next to the ocean. Amazing views from the lighthouse. Finished off at the Foxcat Cafe/Food Truck for a delicious vegan smoothie and pie. (Sorry there's no picture - for some reason I can't upload to Givealittle.)
