Just before Christmas I completed my first standard tri at Mission Bay in Auckland. 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run.

Despite the nerves, I managed to beat my expected time, and have lots of fun whilst doing it!

Now I just have to double that for my Half Iron Man in March.

2 Months today! Thats 6 weeks unitl I need to taper off...... eeekkkk.....

  • Getting ready for my Half Iron Man

Over the last year, I not only have had to learn to walk again, but learn to perfect my running style, how to ride a bike with cleats and learn to love ocean swimming.

I have joined various sporting groups, community fun runs / swims and bikes.

Along the way I have met and made some amazing friends and learnt to love the triathlon sport. It amazes me what people can achieve when they put their mind to it.

I can only imagine having to do a full iron man.... a half is a major challenge for me right now!

  • Africa.... It changed my perspective on happiness

2 months ago I was privileged enough to go to Africa with one of my best mates, Louise and volunteer with a school of primary children.

Whilst we were there we employed plasterers to plaster the schools walls. The school had run out of funding to plaster the walls, and some of the classrooms were half complete.

Louise and I painted the walls and benches outside the school to brighten up and their play and learning areas. The children loved it, and we were request to draw and paint pictures all over the school and in many of the classrooms to help vacillate with the children's learning’s.

    Such a rewarding trip!

  • Just over a year ago I was learning to walk again

Yes! I ran, I jumped, and yes, I got the thrill. I also managed to achieve cutting the tendons and nerves in my right foot and knee resulting in 20+ stitches and not being able to walk for 6 weeks.

This taught me how lucky we are to be able to walk / run and do activities that come so easily to us in our everyday lives and how quick it is to take them for granted.

This got me thinking about turning my dream to complete a half iron man (one day) into a reality right now! You never know when it will be too late.

A year and half later, I will be doing just that!

    Watch This Space...
