I will be climbing Mt Ama Dablam in Eastern Nepal, not only to fulfil a lifelong dream but to help raise awareness for Anglemans syndrome.
Wellington
I am off to attempt Mt Ama Dablam 6812m in Eastern Nepal https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ama_Dablam , my trip leaves on Nov 6th. It will be one of the hardest challenges of my life so far....that said as we all know climbing is by all intents and purposes a fairly selfish pursuit, leaving family for a month and an amazing wife to run the house and our life whilst I am away and a business partner to run the show for a month.
I want to try and make this not just about me, but about someone else and something else. My good friend Keith has a beautiful, amazing daughter Kaya who aside from being a beautiful mischief has AngelMans syndrome- "Angelman syndrome (AS) is a rare neuro-genetic disorder that occurs in one in 15,000 live births. Angelman syndrome is often misdiagnosed as cerebral palsy or autism due to lack of awareness. Characteristics of the disorder include developmental delay, lack of speech, seizures, and walking and balance disorders. Individuals with Angelman syndrome will require life-long care"(taken from AngelmanSyndromefoundation.com)
I would like to raise money for the Angelman Network on behalf of Kaya Henderson and her family and others diagnosed or yet to be diagnosed with this condition. All money donated will be donated to the Angelman Network NZ for angelmans related research and assistance.
I am taking part in this expedition as part of a 6 man team, being led by Tim Mosedale.
I want to make it not just about me and my possible accomplishment but about something much more important than my own ego.
