From January - June 2015 I'll be running 3,200km through NZ. South to North. Solo and unsupported, raising funds for Outward Bound.
Nationwide
WHAT’S ALL THIS ABOUT THEN?
On January 12th at 9am, I’ll set off from Bluff to run 3,200 km through New Zealand. Following the Te Araroa Trail I’ll run through forests, over mountain ranges, across rivers and along beaches. From the Southern most point of the South Island, to Cape Reigna in the very North.
HOW FAR WILL YOU RUN PER DAY?
I’m aiming to cover anything between 20 - 45km miles per day. That kind of mileage will mean I’ve got a challenge on my hands, but will make sure that I have enough time to say hello to all the people and places en-route.
ARE YOU DOING IT ON YOUR OWN?
Yes siree. I’ll be running solo and unsupported, carrying all my camping gear and equipment on my back. That’s not to say I won’t have company though. I’m encouraging anyone and everyone to run with me in and out of towns if they can, and have me come and speak to the kids in their communities as I pass through.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
Around about 5 months. The most important part of the trip is to make the time to go into schools, to raise awareness of the incredible work Outward Bound do and to share the adventure as I go along. This journey isn’t about records or speeds, it’s about the people and the places. And people and places demand time.
AREN’T YOU SCARED?
Nervous, yes, Scared, no. It’s scientifically impossible to be scared when you’re this excited. (Okay, maybe I'm a little bit scared. Ssshhhh)
ARE YOU CRAZY?
Definitely. Life is too short to be anything but. I only hope this makes you take a leap and indulge your inner crazy too. Drop me a line when that happens and let me know :)
