Anthony and Cameron are going to run the Podium Podiatry 2km Kids dash in Rotorua to raise money for the coeliac kids club.
Bay of Plenty
Anthony has been dignosed with coeliac disease since he was 3. Anthony along with his wee brother Cameron are going to run the 2km Kids dash to raise money for the Bay of Plenty and Waikato Kids club for Coeliac disease. This means he can't eat gluten, any gluten and even traces can give him internal bowel damage, as little as 1/67th of a teaspoon of gluten. It seems fairly simple cutting out gluten (once your used to it) but what is more of a challenge for us is the impact that food has on bringing people together. We eat food when we get together as friends, for celebrations, parties and other events. Food and eating brings us together and unites us, so being the one that can't eat the food can be difficult and make you sad, especially when your little. The Coeliac kids club helps Anthony feel like he is not unique and that other kids are just like him.
Coeliac New Zealand were a great source of support when Anthony was diagnosed. The kids club in Rotorua really helped us to adjust to a gluten free life. Anthony loves going to all the coeliac kid clubs events. It's really important to him to not be the only one who is a coeliac and gets so much from spending time with the other coeliac kids.
Help us raise funds for our Kids Clubs by running or walking any of the courses at the Rotorua Half Marathon.
Thank you Nana and Grandad, were hoping that the cuzzies might join in as they will be up for Ed's bike race.
Thanks Sam
