Wow, what a great week it has been in many respects. We have had a couple of new team members join us and a couple drop out. The original walking goal was to walk 10,000 steps on average per day but what has actually happened is that the guys and girls are well and truly exceeding that and on average we are walking 14,500 per day - 23 people - that's a lot of steps and as a result we cracked 2 million steps this week! An outstanding effort by all. Our top walker and total legend this week is Kirsty Cashmore closely followed by Dickie Burman. Both of these two averaged over 20,000 steps per day. When you stop and think that Kirsty has three young kids, it is probably no wonder she is always on her toes! On the donation front we have also hit the $4000 mark at given we are one day off halfway, that is outstanding! Thanks to all who have donated. Your support is brilliant and appreciated!

Once again we had a couple of fit bit issues with one person who shall remain nameless, running over hers with 30,000 steps on the clock!! She well and truly made up for it though!

Remember, look out for our "Make A Wish" tee shirts and if you see us on the streets, give us a toot out!!

    Thanks again for your support!

Greetings all. Well firstly a huge congratulations to you all. Not one person averaged under the 10,000 steps that we asked you to commit to in the first 5 days. That is an outstanding effort by all of you and particularly those who have just taken up this challenge and don’t walk regularly. I am sure you are already feeling better for it.

We had a few teething problems initially. A number of people didn’t realise that you needed to load your step measurement in to ensure the trackers was not clocking up the wrong number of steps. Also for those of us who are not techo savy getting the thing to sync with our phones was an issue. We had a couple of people, myself included, who managed to click the thing over to sleep mode and had no idea how to get it off and therefore lost steps (not making any excuses). We had two fitbits get lost – Snows is out on the farm somewhere – thanks Mary for handing yours over and then Frankie flicked hers off when she took a jacket off! Unfortunately this penalised both of them but never the less the overall results were excellent. Good job!!

A special mention needs to go to Janet Holmes of Rothbury. Janet absolutely rocked this week stepping over 100,000 steps in her first 5 days – an average of 20,000 steps a day. Well done Janet. Well done also to those of us who did the City to Surf on Saturday. Geoff Monk did the inaugural half marathon. He ran it and unfortunately the fitbit calculates the steps therefore his step count was half of those of the people who did the 11 km walk. Never mind it was an awesome effort – go round twice next time Geoff!! Also he needs to get some sunblock. His fair English complexion was compromised and he looked like he still had his sunglasses on yesterday when he arrived at work!!

The average steps for the two teams have been calculated and although it was 13 vs 7 we also took into account the numbers in each team. We have excluded Robyn – she has withdrawn and unfortunately matt Clutterbuck sustained a serious leg injury on Saturday whilst playing rugby and was unable to complete the week. Wendy Boddington has taken his place and her steps will count for the team even from next week.
