Turning $5 into $5k to Change 5 Lives

$2,214 of $5,250 goal
Given by 26 generous donors in around 4 months

Bella is starting with just $5 and wants to raise $5k to pay for dyslexia assessments for five kids whose families cannot afford them.

Hi, I am Bella and this Givealittle page is for people who like my $5 to $5K Challenge and want to add to the money I am raising myself, so I can reach, or even pass, my $5,000 goal faster.

My challenge is to turn $5 into $5,000 so I can pay for five dyslexia assessments for kids who really need them.

I am dyslexic and I know how hard it is when people do not understand your brain. My diagnosis helped my family finally see what was going on and it changed everything for me. But some families cannot afford an assessment, so kids can sit in class thinking they are dumb when their brain just works in a different way. I want to help change that.

I am using my first $5 to try small money making ideas, then I take the profit and grow it again. I will sell drinks and treats, walk dogs, help with jobs, and share my progress on my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@JustBellaM

All funds from this page will be paid directly to SPELD, to be used for dyslexia assessments for children who could not otherwise afford them, plus any bank or platform fees. As each assessment is funded we will share how many children have been helped, while always protecting each child’s privacy.

Your donation is not just money, it is a message to a child that they are worth investing in. If you cannot donate, you can still help by sharing my page or videos.

Thank you for helping me turn $5 into $5K and change the story for five amazing kids.

Easter here we come!  12 March 2026

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for all the support so far. I have already raised $1714 which is incredible and I am so grateful to everyone who has donated or shared the page.

I have decided to reopen the page because I am not finished yet! My goal has always been to reach $5000 so that more families who suspect their child may be dyslexic can access an assessment but may not otherwise be able to afford one.

Since the page first went live, I have held two sausage sizzles at Mitre 10 Papanui with the help of family members, which raised a big portion of the funds so far. I have also started sharing my journey and progress on my YouTube channel.

Over the Easter school holidays I plan to keep going with the challenge. I now have a friend on board who is also dyslexic and together we are looking at ideas like raffles and car washing to help reach the final goal.

I know first hand how life changing a dyslexia diagnosis can be. My own assessment helped me understand how my brain works and gave us the clarity we needed to get the right support in place.

Thank you again for being part of this journey and helping me make a difference for other kids.

Bella x

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
