I'm getting old and instead of celebrating with everyone let's help our young people deal with this changing world a bit easier.
Nationwide
Unfortunately my landmark birthday of hitting the quarter century this year won't be celebrated in usual fashion with all the friends and family I'm lucky enough to have.
That sucks, but I've still got it pretty darn good.
This isn't the same for a lot of young people, who now find themselves in a world that is experiencing the biggest social and economic disruption since World War 2 and who may already have been struggling dealing with the tolls of everyday life. Some will have diagnosed mental illness that is just going to get worse given the stress of this situation. Some will have parents that have already lost or will lose their jobs. Some may have family members who contract Covid-19 and become very ill, and heaven forbid some may lose family members.
Being a kid is tough, even more so now, because this crisis affects everyone, so let's help out as much as we can.
For my birthday this year, I want to try and get everyone who would celebrate with me, and those who have also had birthdays fall during the lockdown period, to donate to I Am Hope, a charity that helps fund counselling services for young people aged 5-25. A lot of us will be alright through this situation and so I hope we can all recognise our capacity to still help others by donating to a charitable cause which could significantly impact others.
Donate $1 and you've made a difference.
Counselling helped me significantly to deal with recent tough periods in my life and with my birthday coming up soon I wanted to use it as a reason to fundraise for a cause I think will help a lot of young people like it helped me.
