Bird Walk - Te Araroa

I’m on a wee adventure known as Te Araroa (the long pathway) — a four month journey spanning 2998 km across New Zealand — from Cape Reinga to Bluff. It’s the single-most difficult and yet without-a-doubt THE most rewarding activity I’ve ever embarked upon. And I’m loving every moment.

The charity I’m nominating is one that’s dear to my heart: BirdCare Aotearoa, NZ's largest wild bird hospital and rehabilitation centre. Their team of vets, vet nurses and volunteers work incredibly hard to treat our wild manu, to feed, medicate, and (all going well) release each of the 6000 yearly patients. They are funded entirely by donations, so they need every cent they can get. Speaking of which…

1¢ per kilometre I think (I hope!) is not too much to ask. Any amount is a boon, but $10.00 for 1000 kilometres keeps things nice and neat. If you want to opt for a custom rate, by all means, go nuts (and raisins)!

For those who want to go the extra mile (ha!) and reckon I’ve got a shot at completing the whole thing, a pledge of $29.98 corresponds to the whole trail length. It would be a fantastic incentive: it’s good for the birds, it’s good for you (it will make you feel extra gooey inside), and it’s good for me knowing each step along the way is helping our feathered friends.
