Help the care centre nominated by the Good Samaritan who found $3,000 in cash and returned it to the police station in Blenheim.
Marlborough
A Marlborough Express story in Stuff on 13th July was about a recovering drug addict who found $3,000 in cash outside a Blenheim cafe, and handed it in to the police, from where it was returned to its owner.
His words were touching, "It was hard [to hand in the cash], I wanted to keep it but I am in recovery and they teach you to be honest."
It would be great to applaud his honesty and offer support to the wonderful place that helped turn this man's life around. As with many organisations in the health sector, the St Mark's Addiction Centre in Blenheim is struggling financially and needs about $22,000 to get back into the black.
See the Stuff story 'Recovering drug addict turns Good Samaritan and hands in $3,000 cash" from 13th July, 2015, and 'Addiction treatment centre struggling to stay afloat', from 9th July.
I'm involved because I read the story about the Good Samaritan and wanted to do something to show my appreciation for this man's honesty. I was at first disappointed that he declined to receive the money himself, as he felt he didn't need any more reward (he was given $50), but on reflection I agree with him - he did the right thing and that is enough. But he suggested that if I wanted to make a donation, to donate to the St Marks Addiction Centre. And I do (and have), so I'm hoping other people feel that way also, and are willing to spare some cash to help the centre to clear some debt, so they can keep up the good work they do.

Many thanks to Rachel McFadden from the Marlborough Express for writing a story about the Givealittle page. It's generating some interest, which is great for St Mark's. Big thank you too (of course) to our generous donors.
