On November 17th (World Prematurity Day) I will be bowling in the nets for 12 hours to raise funds for The Little Miracles Trust.
Hamilton, Waikato
November the 17th is World Prematurity Day. Every year in New Zealand, over 5000 babies are born premature and many require long stays in NICU (Newborn Intensive Care Unit). The Little Miracles Trust provide support to families that have a baby staying there, and our family was one of those earlier this year.
Our baby Genevieve arrived at 27(+6) weeks gestation, having endured a high-risk pregnancy. She eventually came home after spending 83 days in the Waikato Hospital NICU, and is now doing well, which we are thankful for. However, every premature journey is all-consuming for parents and it is something that no one intends to go through.
The Little Miracles Trust play a vital role in supporting the families involved, as well as staff working in the Intensive Care Units, which is why on the 17th of November this year, I will be bowling in the cricket nets for 12 hours to raise funds for this great charity. I have set a challenge of hitting the stumps 500 times over this time period - one for every 10 babies born premature in New Zealand annually.
Update 15 September 2024
It's been a while since I posted an update on here, but we have been quietly making progress. We now have a venue booked for this - we will be using the indoor cricket nets in the dome at Hamilton Boys' High School on Sunday the 17th of November. The target is still to hit the stumps 500 times between 8am and 8pm that day. There are also a few young cricketers from the school who have expressed interest in being part of a support crew for the day. We still have a couple of months until the event, and I will keep you posted as we get closer.
