Despite being a self-professed nerd I’ve decided to take the leap from the office into the boxing ring in the name of charity!

Hey guys! I’m Ireland and I’m going to be fighting the wonderful Laura "Crusher" cairns in the OUSA Charity Fight Night on July 13th! I’m a 4th year anatomy student completing my Bachelor of Science with Honours in Neuroscience. I have a passion for science, education and the brain. Scientists tend to have a bit of a reputation for being, well, a little shy and studious, so I thought I best get out there to do my bit and show that nerds can be tough too! Not only is this a chance for me to push myself out of my comfort zone and improve my fitness, I also have the awesome opportunity to fundraise for a charity while doing so.
So often we are caught up in life and our physical wellbeing and we forget about our most important organ, our brain! This is why I’ve decided to raise money for the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand, to help support the amazing work they do for Kiwis all around the country. Not only do the Mental Health Foundation help in times of crisis, they also act to promote positive mental health and wellbeing
While I am a self-confessed Barbie, the pink get up you’ll see me wearing in photos is more than a tribute to Barbara Millicent herself – it’s in support of Pink Shirt Day, a day run by the Mental Health Foundation to raise awareness for victims of bullying in schools and workplaces. While 2018 Pink Shirt Day has been and gone, I wear my pink with pride.
So donate, share, like and comment! Do your part to get amongst and support this awesome charity and awesome event.
The Mental Health Foundation is my chosen charity for the OUSA Charity Fight Night
