For over two decades, my father has been missing from my life. Growing up without him left me filled with anger and countless unanswered questions. As I became a father myself, I realized just how much I needed him in my life.
My father served in the Army, and despite years of searching, we had no idea where he was. We feared the worst. But everything changed earlier this week when my aunt received a message from a woman in Darwin, Australia. She had found my father. My cousin flew over immediately, and we confirmed—it was him.
Tragically, my father has suffered a major stroke, leaving him unable to communicate and paralyzed on his right side. He has been in a hospital for three months, isolated and unable to reach out to us.
After years of heartbreak, I now know that my father is the missing piece of my life. My family and I are determined to bring him home to New Zealand, where he belongs.
However, we are now facing a legal battle. Due to his long isolation, the Australian Public Trust has taken guardianship of him. We are fighting to regain that guardianship so we can ensure he gets the care he deserves and begin the journey of bringing him
Thank you for any support you can provide. Whether it’s a donation, a share, or simply keeping our family in your prayers, I am deeply grateful.

Kia Ora whānau,
First off, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone for your incredible support so far. We’ve made significant progress—we now have guardianship in Australia, and are currently working through the logistics of transferring Dad back to Gisborne. The hospitals in Australia and Gisborne are in discussions, but we don’t yet have a confirmed transfer date.
We’re also working with Veteran Affairs for funding assistance, and my cousin has done an incredible job handling all the legal meetings and groundwork in Australia. They are now back in Gisborne to push this urgent matter with the hospitals.
On top of that, Dad’s Army friend has been visiting him regularly and keeps us updated on how he’s doing, which has been a great comfort during this time.
We’re also in the process of securing guardianship in New Zealand, so everything will be in place for his care when he returns home. You might have noticed a change to this page as it’s now merged with Dad’s Army Whānau.
Every day, we get closer to getting him home. Please continue to share this page—your support means everything, and together we will bring him back where he belongs.
