First Steps Himalaya is rebuilding schools damaged in the 2015 earthquakes using Earthbag technology, which is earthquake resilient.

International

This project aims to build earthquake-resilient, high quality school buildings and at the same time provide on the job training on professional earthbag construction methods to others who can continue the efforts elsewhere in their communities.

Mandy Brown's involvement (page creator)

Denis Brown climbed and trekked in Nepal over the span of 25 years. He loved the country, the mountains and the many friends he made there. He would have been devastated by the tragic earthquakes that happened shortly after he died last year. Three of the Brown Team, Mandy, Gill and Daniel, are heading back to Nepal to visit his favourite places and people and to help with the building of an earthquake proof "earth bag" school in Sangachok, Nepal. This is just one small part of the efforts to rebuild after the terrible earthquakes of 2015. I think this means we'll be filling and hauling sandbags and no doubt learning along the way about this interesting building technique. We'll be working along with friends of Dad's, the owners of Peak Freaks, with whom he climbed on Everest. We'd like to help make this project as successful as possible and your donations to this respected organization will be so appreciated.
