Participating in Tour Aotearoa 2023
Christchurch, Canterbury
Kia ora and hi!
In early 2021 at the age of 51 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and in September 2021 I had surgical removal of my prostate (prostatectomy). Prior to this I felt physically healthy. I am a father of three sons, and a daughter, and grandfather of three mokopuna, two granddaughters and one grandson.
My motivation for this fundraising bike ride is to raise awareness of Prostate Cancer and to encourage men to take control of their health by having regular check ups to catch concerns early. I want to continue living my life fully and sharing it with my partner, children and grandchildren including passing down my life's adventures and knowledge, and be a role model for my whanau.
So why have I decided to embark on Tour Aotearoa, cycling from Cape Reinga to Bluff?
Although I have always been surrounded by love and support, I had my own struggle through the challenges of my cancer diagnosis. There were many days where I had to find enough self drive to remain positive, taking it one day at a time. This is how I view Tour Aotearoa, it is up to me to do the hard grind, the mahi and face the daily mental and physical challenges, with the support of family/whanau, friends, and supporters.
Start date 8:00am 16/02/2023
