Participating in Toss the Boss 2022
Otago
Chase started Ōtepoti Boxing Club in September 2020. The club runs Chase’s own Boxing for Te Whare Tapa Whā programme, the purpose of which is to provide rangatahi of Dunedin with key principles through the art of boxing. teaching them to release stress in a healthy way, while building a solid platform for a Te Whare Tapa Whā approach to their wellbeing.
The fundamentals of boxing and fitness teach rangatahi self-discipline, self-respect, respect towards others, and strengthens the mind, as well as helping them build a fighting spirit to deal with different challenges in life all based on the four pillars of Te Whare Tapa Whā. The programme also provides mentors for the rangatahi, such as experienced boxing trainers and coaches to provide guidance and positive role models.
We believe if we can build our rangatahi to have a strong humble mindset they will become role models in our community and others will aspire to have the same if not similar approach to their health and wellbeing.
Our approach at Ōtepoti Boxing Club is we are not just a club teaching boxing, we are a platform for rangatahi to come to in time of need. We make ourselves available for these young ones whenever they feel they need to reach out. We have great role models and senior members at our gym who are readily available, and together we grow.
